Manufacturing’s strong networking presence aims to develop strong supplier relationships, garner efficient logistics, and build B2B partnerships – making networking essential for growth. With networking picking up pace – which industries are the best at it? And how can both employees and businesses maximise their networking potential? To find out, Tapt analysed a sample of over 400,000 networking connections — instances where professionals exchanged details using our platform — from a total of 3.7 million interactions. AI hype cycle meets reality for construction industry

Study of 460 Australian Design and Make companies reveals AECO, D&M, and M&E sectors continue to grapple with challenges including cost control, talent shortages and environmental sustainability. A new report from Autodesk, Inc. reveals a shift in AI optimism and preparedness, as well as lingering concerns over cost control in Australian Design and Make industries – including construction and manufacturing – amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty. The 2025 State of Design & Make report surveyed and interviewed 5,600 global business leaders – including 460 in Australia – in industries that comprise the Design and Make category. These sectors include architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO), product design and manufacturing (D&M), and media and entertainment (M&E). In Australia, 2024 was defined by high cost of living pressures, exacerbated by high interest rates and inflation. This severely impacted design and make industries, with the 2025 Design & Make report revealing that 40 per cent of Australian respondents consider cost control and cost management to be the largest challenge facing their organisation. The report found that investments are down year over year, which could be reflective of high interest rates and therefore a higher cost of borrowing. However, despite slowing investments, optimism remains high, with 67 per cent of leaders saying their organisations will increase future investments. “Alongside cost-of-living, artificial intelligence dominated Australia’s attention in 2024,” said Andy Cunningham, Senior Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand at Autodesk. “However, it appears this fixation has tapered off, following the natural path of tech hype cycles. iMOVE CRC launches $2m impact fund for Australian companies & universities

iMOVE Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) is doubling down on its mission to deliver impactful transport innovation for Australia, with the launch of a $2 million second round of its highly successful Impact Extension Program (IEP). The fund is now also open to universities. The IEP2 initiative aims to identify and support Australia’s most promising new technologies, products and services in the transport and mobility space. Grants from $100,000 to $500,000 will be awarded to a portfolio of high-potential projects, all of which must be completed by September 2026. The new round follows the success of IEP1 in 2023, which attracted more than 75 applications and funded two standout innovations – microFleet’s OneDock and SAGE Automation’s See Me app – each awarded $500,000 to help bring their ideas to life. IEP2 builds on this momentum, offering greater flexibility and reach. While IEP1 awarded two $500,000 grants, IEP2 will take a portfolio approach – supporting 5-10 smaller or mid-sized projects, allowing more organisations including universities to participate. Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and can be from any sector – start-ups, corporates, local councils, universities, or not-for-profits with no requirement to be an existing iMOVE partner. Projects must align with iMOVE’s mission of advancing transport systems through collaborative, high-impact R&D. Statement on the Coalition’s Frontier Economics gas policy modelling

Attributable to Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch The Frontier Economics modelling of the Coalition’s gas price controls policy leaves many unanswered questions about how the policy would work and reaffirms industry’s fundamental concerns. The policy would introduce price controls in the east coast gas market and would be yet another heavy-handed intervention that will drive away investment and risk exacerbating the supply pressures in the longer term. The Coalition rightly opposed a similar policy in 2022, when the Federal Government introduced price caps that ultimately delayed new supply and damaged investor confidence. At the time, the Coalition noted that “price caps in the gas market would be a disaster” that could lead to “a collapse in industry confidence resulting in job losses and long-term investment downturns”, and cited EnergyQuest modelling “that showed a $10-per-gigajoule cap could remove or delay more than 700 petajoules of new gas supply in less than eight years.” Rather than increasing gas supply, the Coalition’s policy risks reducing domestic gas production and supply because there would be no incentive to produce sub-economic gas, and it would damage already suppressed investor confidence. The modelling also ignores the material infrastructure constraints that limit how much gas from Queensland can be sent to the southern states, with the pipes already running at full capacity during peak periods – a point the Coalition made less than six months ago. There is much in the Coalition’s broader gas plan that is welcome and responds to what industry has been calling for, including streamlining environmental approvals, providing more certainty and protection from lawfare for critical energy projects, including gas in the Capacity Investment Scheme, and support for pipeline and storage to address infrastructure constraints. CIC and Jinko Solar to jointly develop a 10GW green hydrogen blueprint

Climate Impact Corporation (“CIC”) has a Memorandum of Understanding with Jinko Solar, a significant step in CIC’s development of an end-to-end renewable hydrogen supply chain. The two parties will engage in deep cooperation in areas such as PV module production and supply, equipment technology synergy, and more, to jointly promote the large-scale application of renewable energy-based hydrogen production. As one of the largest and leading solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers in the world, Jinko brings extensive expertise, enabling CIC to develop its renewable hydrogen modules at pace and scale. Solar power generation is a key component of CIC’s renewable hydrogen production modules, which are able to operate entirely off-grid, and consist of solar panels, atmospheric water generators, and electrolysers. Future-proofing warehouse operations With a growing client base and rising inventory volumes, Coghlan sought a solution to maximise storage efficiency while controlling operational expenses. Two ransomware incidents highlight how attackers target security blind spots

By Barracuda Networks IT security teams are bombarded daily if not hourly with security alerts and events. They need to cut through the noise to piece together the puzzle of potential threats and anomalous or suspicious activity to decide whether they are looking at legitimate actions or intruders with malicious intent. What happens when one or more of the puzzle pieces are missing? Two different, real-life ransomware incidents targeting manufacturing companies and mitigated by Barracuda Managed XDR highlight what can happen to a company when their security cover is incomplete. Incident #1: A Play ransomware attack The security blind spots: compromised domain admin credentials, unprotected server not visible to security cover, the misuse of legitimate, commercially available IT tools At approximately 1:00 a.m. on a Tuesday night, attackers exploited the credentials for a domain admin account to breach an unprotected remote desktop server belonging to their target. The lack of security cover meant that the anomalous activity on the domain controller went unnoticed. The attackers then tried to establish persistence by installing a remote monitoring and management application on the unprotected server so that they could control their target from a distance. The attackers used commercially available tools to try to obtain a list of credentials and move laterally through the network. This activity brought them to the attention of security tools which promptly killed the malicious activity. The attackers then tried to disable and manipulate security measures and delete copies of files – a common precursor to the release of ransomware. This activity was also detected and blocked. At 3:20 a.m. the attackers tried to execute Play ransomware and encrypt several devices. By 3:23 a.m. this attempt was shut down when the targeted endpoints were isolated from the network.
